The Rez United Nations Group is a multicultural club at Resurrection Catholic Secondary School in Kitchener, Ontario. It was founded in 1998 by Chris Maguathi, a previous student in R.C.S.S.. The reason that he started this group was he found that there are some kind of racism, discrimination, and injustice in the school community and he wanted to eliminate them. Currently, we have about 20 members in our group, they are the students from our school who want to make a different in eliminating racism and discrimination.
Our mission is to eliminate ALL racism in our community and make students to be aware of the serious problems that cause by racial discrimination.
Every year, we organize a multicultural week in the week of March 21st. The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. This year, our activities include: Chopstick race, Olympic Colour Dress Day, and the Court of Canadian Citizenship. We have also put together a videotape which students can say a message of how they feel about multiculturalism in Canada.
